A piece of writing is considered 'self-reflexive' when it basically makes comments about itself. All of the poems in the module "Poetry about Poetry" are self-reflexive because they're all about poetry itself. This is a good place to start with the study of poetry because nothing can explain poetry as well as a poem.
In "Introduction to Poetry" by Billy Collins, what it's saying about poetry in general.
For instance, does the poem answer the question 'Why do we write poetry?' Does it describe the beauty of language or the uniqueness of perspective? Does the poem say these things directly or is it simply implied by how it does what it does?
