A new liquid fuel with formula chz is proposed for use

A new liquid fuel with formula CHz is proposed for use in spark-ignition engines. To determine the fuel properties, a sample of fuel at 25 degress C was placed in a constant volume bomb calorimeter. Oxygen at 25 degress C was admitted to the bomb and combustion was initiated. the products of complete combustion were cooled to 25 degress C. It was measured that the heat given off during the process was 43.2 MJ/kg of fuel. The composition of the combustion products was 50% CO2 and 50% H2O.

Subsequently, the new fuel was used to run a diesel engine in the lab. the enginge was operated lean at an equivalnece ratio equal to 0.5. Standard air and fuel entered the engine at 25 degrees C, while the combustion products in the exhaust manifold were at an average temperature of 800 K. It was measured that the engine produced a brake power of 2.0 kW while the heat transfer rate to the surroundings was 2.0 kW.

a) determine the atomic hydrogen to carbon ratio of the fuel (i.e., z)

b) What does the heat given-off the calorimtere represent?

c) What is the heat of formation of the fuel at 25 degress C?

d) Determine the mass flow rate of the synthetic fuel to the engine.

e) Determine the brake fuel conversion efficiency of the engine when operated with the synthetic fuel.
