Guidelines
1. A literacy narrative may explore the role reading or writing played at some time in your life, or it may present a situation that needs to be resolved, such as Rose's placement in the vocational track.
2. Vivid details of sights, sounds, smells, textures and other sensory details are needed to bring the world of your story to life. Dialogue is also a useful tool to add life to the story. Consider Agosin's Chilean home surrounded by cherry trees and gardenia.
3. The literacy narrative presents a memory concerning learning and using language, as in Malcom X's literacy narrative of self-improvement, and so your story should also reveal the significance of the described experience.
4. You are writing to share your experience and its meaning with the reader. Consider what the reader needs to know to understand the significance of your narrative.
5. Proofread to eliminate small errors that undermine coherence.
6. Use MLA formatted internal citation and works cited. Ask me or use the Wilhoit text as a guide.
