A Drosophila geneticists has obtained females that carry attached-X chromosomes (i.e. the two X chromosomes have fused together) homozygous for a recessive mutation (y) that causes the body to be yellow instead of gray. She conducts two experiments. For each, predict the phenotypes of the progeny from these two crosses, the relative proportion of each of these phenotypes, and indicate which, if any, will be sterile. (Hint: You will need to refer back to sex determination in Drosophila.) She crosses the attached-X chromosome females to wild-type males that have compound XY chromosome (their X and Y chromosomes attached to each other).
