Tire tread wear can be measured two different ways: by weighing the tire and by measuring the depth of the grooves. Data from a 1953 study [SRM53] that estimated tire wear (in thousands of miles) of a set of tires by each of these two methods is available in the tire wear data set. Turn the following informal questions into formal questions and present an analysis.
a) Do these methods give comparable results?
b) Does one of the two methods tend to give a higher estimate than the other?
c) How well can we predict one measurement from the other? Be sure to discuss any places where you had more than one analysis option and how you made your choice.
