Censorship applied not only to news and commentary, but also popular entertainment. Anti-war films were all but unheard of since the government simply would not allow them. And on the other side, the opposing argument can become that government censorship is bad because the government is supposed to represent us.

Many could say that in a democracy or a democratic republic, protecting free speech is the only means of ensuring that the government is representative of the people.
