Learning Outcomes - Describe goals of financial management within an organisation and explain how a good corporate governance underpins pursuance of such goals.
Context - This Assessment assesses students' understanding of corporate governance issues with regards to corporations.
Instructions: Working in groups of three students select any company that is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) and collect information on directors, executive management and auditors from annual reports covering the years 2016 and 2017. Using this information plus what you obtain from peer reviewed journals and relevant academic material, prepare and deliver a 15 minute presentation in which you address the following:
(a) A critical review of the board and executive management of the company with regards to corporate governance matters.
(b) A critical review of the independence of the auditors of the company.
(c) Discussion of whether the position of chairman and chief executive officer are split and what this implies to the corporate governance of the firm.
