Learning Outcomes - On successful completion of this learning, and this module, you will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate evidence-base relating to the assessment, treatment and management of persons with a diagnosis of diabetes

2. Interpret data, evidence and the role of public health in the prevention and management of diabetes

3. Differentiate between the pathophysiology of types of diabetes

Assessment description:

A written report that applies current, evidence based principles to the care of a case study relevant to practice. The case study may be local, national or international e.g. prevention strategies.

Summative Assessment: A written report that applies current, evidence based principles to an area relevant to practice. The case study may be local, national or international e.g. prevention strategies. The case study could also relate to a specific patient or more overarching situations e.g. the role of policy in your location, the role of new technologies/advances in application to a type of diabetes or specific patient.

Report Outlines -

Introduction:

  • Approximately 500 words maximum;
  • Background, epidemiology prevalence, mortality and morbidity of your chosen type of diabetes
  • Outline what you will discuss in this piece of work and identify that the case study can be found in appendix 1.

Assessment and Diagnosis:

In this section of your assignment, you should consider the concepts and activities undertaken in Unit 6 of this Module. Where possible, you can apply a theory, model or tool(s).

Treatment and management:

You should explicitly apply knowledge to your case study and evaluate any alternative treatment/management options where appropriate.

Conclusion:

Your conclusion should be no more than 500 words and respond to your initial introduction, summarising what you have found through your discussion.
