1 give a common everyday example of fluid

1) Give a common everyday example of fluid dynamics.

2) Solen and Harb problem 7.3

3) Each morning most of you take a nice warm shower. Water from the hot water tank flows through a 2 cm pipe into the shower head and onto you. A safety valve on the water heater sets the maximum pressure in the tank to 50 psi so your hot water tank runs at 30 psi. The water has no velocity in the water tank and exits the shower head at 10 gallons per minute at a pressure of 14.7 psi.

The density of water is 1 gram per cubic centimeter. Neglect friction. (a) How many feet higher than the water tank can a shower be located (assume that the tank is level 1 and the shower head outlet is at level 2)? (b) Do you need a pump to reach the 6th floor, and if so how big of a pump do you need? Assume each floor to be 10 feet high (8 feet inside with 2 feet outside). (c) How big of a pump do you need to reach the 6th floor (in metric units)? For this problem please show your work including unit conversions and algebraic manipulation of the system you used (otherwise this assignment will be returned to you). All the required equations and unit conversion are given in Solen and Harb.

4) Give three common everyday examples of mass transfer. Name two mechanisms by which mass transfers. Why does mass transfer not have a radiative mechanism like heat transfer does?
