Introduction to Working of Top Loading Washing Machine
The procedure of washing begins in the inner wash tub. It includes the adding up of the water and detergent mixture to the clothes. The detergent consists of several enzymes which work on clothes to clean them. The cloths are tumbled and moved to all sides of the agitator in the inner wash tub.
Agitator improves the act of enzymes on clothes. An agitator is a plastic cylinder that is located at the center of the inner tub. Usually, an agitator is finned. The finned structure of it aids it in its function. The task of an agitator is to move the cloths up and down, back and forth so that the clothing mixes well along with the detergent. The inner wash tub as well moves with the agitator. This motion is repeated for an ascertained period of time. The agitator makes sure by cleaning of the clothing. This cycle is termed as the wash cycle.
The timer assists setting the wash time for the clothes manually. The time is fixed automatically depending on the number of clothes in the washing machine in the automatic mode. In the wash cycle, the agitator and the inner tub are moved regularly through a powerful electric motor. Actually, it is the motor that accelerates the process of washing.

The inner tub has several holes. From the clothes the centrifugal force pulls out wash water and makes it move by these holes to the outer tub that stationary. The water acquires pumped out from here through the drain tube.
Later than the wash water has left, the inner tub is once more filled with clean water. Agitator again acts to tumble the clothing. This is the 2nd cycle and is termed as the rinse cycle. The purpose of this cycle is to discharge the detergent particles trapped in the washed fabric. On finishing point of rinsing, the machine again drains out water.
One time the water has been drained out; other electric motor comes to play. It agitates the inner tub at a very high speed. The centripetal force spins out left over water from the fabric and expels it by the drain tube. This is a timed process. The clothing gets decreased from saturated to just wet. This is the 3rd cycle, termed as spin cycle that is to remove out as much water as feasible from the wet clothes. In all the steps, draining is performed through the drain tubes. The cleaning of the fabric is completed and it is set to dry.
