Introduction to Lap Winding
While the finishing end of the first coil is connected to the starting end of the next coil that starts from similar pole, as displayed in below diagram in which the first coil started is termed as lap winding.

From the diagram, for lap winding, the front pitch, Yf = Yb - Y

Solution: P = 4, C = 24, winding type = lap
The back pitch, Yb = (2C/P) + K = [(2 x 24)/4] + k = 12 + K = 11 or 13 (odd integer)
The winding pitch, Y = + 2 = 2 (even integer)
By the above diagram or from the equation, front pitch, Yf = 11 -2 = 9 or 13 - 2 = 11 (odd integer).
