Fault Finding Techniques

Introduction to Fault Finding Techniques

It involves both the fault finding and rectification of it. It is a very responsive job. It needs proper tools, circuit diagram, test equipment and similar components.

PRECAUTIONS

i. Very first, write down the name, model of the receiver and number of bands and stages in the receiver and number of transistors and integrated circuits are that employed.

ii. The receiver should not be opened if not main cords are checked.

iii. Once opening the receiver the burnt components (parts) and missed should be observed.

iv. Before connecting the receiver to the supply, high voltage short test should be performed.

v. After providing the supply to the receiver, view for any spark, smoke or burning smell.

vi. When checking or finding out a fault, the tuned circuits of the receiver should not be tuned.

PROCEDURE

For quick and prefect servicing, a step by step process should be followed. The tests that should be are as follows:

i) Static Test

ii) Dynamic Test

STATIC TEST

Static test is also termed as primary test. It is the test that is checked before providing the supply to the receiver.

It is categorized as follows.

i) Main cord Test

ii) HT short Test

iii) Speaker click Test

iv) Visual Test

MAINS CORD TEST

Each and every equipment contains mains cord. Checking this cord is termed as mains cord test.

HT SHORT TEST

It is the test to test the short circuit among the high voltage supply lines.

SPEAKER CLICK TEST

In the receiver, the test that is employed to test the speaker is termed as speaker click test.

VISUAL TEST

Inspection of missing parts and burnt components in the receiver is termed as visual test.

DYNAMIC TEST

Dynamic test is also termed as secondary test. It is the test that is checked after providing supply to the receiver.

It is categorized as follows:

i) Signal Test

ii) Voltage Test

iii) Current Test

iv) Resistance Test

v) Programme Test

SINGEL TEST

Single is also termed as signal injection. It is the test that is employed to test the stages through providing external signals. Signal injectors are employed for this aim. Fault stages can be demonstrated through this test.

VOLTAGE TEST

After finding out the defective stages, this voltage test is employed. Thus, this test is employed to make out the components. To acquire this test, voltages are to be computed. Voltmeter is employed for this test.

CURRENT TEST

Current test is the test which is used to find out the components by measuring current through them, it is the one of the most important tests. Ammeter is used for this.

RESISTANCE TEST

Resistance test is the test that is employed to confirm the fault components through measuring its resistance. Ohmmeter is employed for it.

PROGRAMME TEST

Programme test is the last test. It is the test to test the programmes in dissimilar station.

SOAK TEST

After servicing a receiver we should test it through putting in 'on' condition for long hours to check whether it as ok or not. This kind of testing is termed as Soak test.

VIBRATION TEST

We should vibrate it a little to check whether it is ok or not after servicing an intermittently working receiver. This type of testing is termed as Vibration test.
