Introduction to CDMA Transmission
Code division multiple access is abbreviated as CDMA is a channel access method used by several radio communication technologies. CDMA should not be confused along with the mobile phone standards called CDMA One and CDMA 2000.
One of the essential concepts in data communication is the proposal of permitting various transmitters to send information concurrently over a communication channel. This permits various users to share a bandwidth of dissimilar frequencies. This concept is termed as multiplexing. CDMA uses spread- spectrum technology and a unique coding scheme to permit multiple users to be multiplexed over similar physical channel. CDMA is a type of spread-spectrum signalling, because the modulated coded signal has a much greater data bandwidth than the data being communicated.
An analogy to the difficulty of multiple accesses is a room (channel) where people want to communicate with one another. To prevent uncertainty, people could acquire turns speaking (time division), speak at dissimilar pitches (frequency division), or speak in dissimilar languages (code division). CDMA is similar to the last instance in which people speaking similar language can understand one another, but not other people. Likewise, in radio CDMA, each group of users is provided a shared code. Several codes occupy similar channel, but only users related with a specific code can communicate.
USES
A CDMA mobile phone has several uses as follow:
A. One of the early on applications for code division multiplexing CDMA) is in GPS. This predates and is separate from CDMA One.
B. The Qualcomm standard IS-95, marketed like CDMA One.
C. The Qualcomm standard IS-2000, termed as CDMA2000. This standard is employed through various mobile phone companies, involving the Global star satellite phone network.
D. CDMA has been employed in the Omni TRACS satellite system for transportation logistics.
