Triple fusion

Triple fusion:

Second male gamete moves further from the central cell and fuses with the two haploid polar nuclei or diploid secondary nucleus to form a triploid primary endosperm nucleus. This procedure including the fusion of three nuclei is termed as triple fusion. This is also termed as vegetative fertilization. The central cell is now termed as primary endosperm cell.

The complete phenomenon of fertilization including the fusion of one male gamete with the egg jointly with the fusion of second male gamete with the polar nuclei is termed as double fertilization. This includes both syngamy and triple fusion. Double fertilization is an exclusive feature of angiosperm and is essential and is essential for the production of viable seeds in the flowering plants. This was first noticed by Nawaschine in the year 1898 in Lillium and Fritillaria.
