In nature Membrane lipids are amphipathic and they comprise a head portion that is hydrophilic and a tail portion that is hydrophobic. When the membranes are displayed to the hydrophilic environments, the lipids arrange themselves to create a bilayer where the hydrophobic core is buried in the membrane.
