The various stages of selection process are:

A) Initial Screening: This is done to reduce the expenses of selection by letting only appropriate applicant go through the further phases in the selection.

B) Application Form: The application form is mainly made to get the information on different aspects, of the candidate’s social, educational and occupational references and background.

C) Tests:  A test is an illustration of a feature of a person’s conduct and behavior, attitude and performance. It also offers a systematic base for matching up the above aspects.

a)    Intelligence Tests: These are tests to assess one’s intelligence or traits of understanding. They are also called as mental ability tests.

b)    Aptitude Tests: Aptitude can be defined as one’s natural talent or ability to gain a particular skill.

c)    Achievement Tests: These are skill tests to measure one’s acquired knowledge. The written tests may seek to test a person’s understanding about a particular subject. But there is no assurance that an individual who knows most also achieves best.

d)    PIP Tests: PIP tests are those which try to measure one’s character, curiosity and preferences for a job.

e)    Projective Tests:  These tests look forward to the candidates to understand situations or problems. Responses to stimuli would be based on the individual’s perception. TAT also known as Thematic Apperception Test and Rorschach Ink Blot Test are cases of projective tests.
