Vitamins of the B complex are: vitamin B1or thiamin; vitamin B2, or riboflavin and niacin (B3), necessary for the constitution of hydrogen acceptors FAD, NAD and NADP of the energetic metabolism; pyridoxine, or B6; and cyanocobalamin, or vitamin B12. Deficiency of vitamin B1 may cause beriberi, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Lack of vitamin B2 may cause mucosal injuries in mouth, lips and tongue. Niacin deficiency may cause digestive disturbances, nervousness, loss of energy and pellagra. Lack of vitamin B6 causes skin lesions, convulsions and irritation. Vitamin B12 acts all together with folic acid and its deficiency may cause the cell division disruptions leading to pernicious anemia, a type of megaloblastic and nutrient deficiency anemia. Absorption of vitamin B12 depends upon other substance known as the intrinsic factor excreted by the gastric mucosa.
