Chloroplasts are organelles existed in the cytoplasm of algae and plant cells. Similar to mitochondria, chloroplasts contain two boundary membranes and numerous internal membranous sacs. In the organelle there are RNA, DNA and ribosome and as well the pigment chlorophyll, accountable for absorption of photic energy which is utilized in photosynthesis.

The major function of chloroplasts is photosynthesis: the production of extremely energetic organic molecules (or glucose) from carbon-dioxide, water and light.
