What is the basic difference among translation and transcription?

Transcription is the name provided to the formation of DNA molecules from an open DNA chain employed as a template.
Translation is the forming of polypeptides (that is, amino acids bound in series) and therefore of proteins based on information encoded in the mRNA molecule.
In eukaryotic cells transcription takes place in the nucleus and translation takes place in ribosomes. Transcription precedes the translation.
