The functional units of muscle fibers are sarcomeres. In sarcomeres blocks, actin and myosin molecules are posed in an organized way. The sarcomeres align in series making myofibrils which are longitudinally positioned in the cytoplasm of the muscle fibers (or cells). The grouping of consecutive blocks of myosin and actin in parallel filaments makes the striped pattern of the striated muscle tissue seen beneath the microscope.
