The arterial system consists of thicker muscle walls as within arteries the blood circulates beneath higher pressure. The veins are much flaccid than arteries. From the lumen to exterior layer both kinds of vessels are made up of endothelium, muscle tissue and connective tissue. In both, the endothelium is a single layer of cells. In arteries, the muscle tissue, the portion is thicker than in veins and in such vessels the exterior connective tissue is thicker than in arteries. Arteries are the pulsating blood vessels. Arterial pulse can be felt in a medical exam, for illustration, by the palpation of radial artery in the internal and lateral face of the wrist close to the base of the thumb.
