Reproduction and Development:Without sexual reproduction our great Earth would not have over 6 000 000 000 people on it with no twoalike (except for identical twins). What would life be like if we were all the same? Can you spell B-O-R-I-N-G? In Genesis 2 God gave man a helpmate – partner – another being to be with him and He named her woman.
She was created from his rib done while Adam was asleep and when God brought her to him the man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man.” The first instance of “marriage” follows in the next verse – “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united in his wife and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.” (Gen 2: 23-5) No shame – did you get that – our bodies were created by God and are in the image of God – and there was no shame. Our bodies are beautiful creations of God – each one unique – and all processes created by God for the functioning of our bodies is beautiful and shameless and this includes sexual reproduction. God didn’t create something nasty and shameful – it is beautiful and shameless – in the context of marriage. So as you read and study this process focus on the uniqueness of God’s creation - of each of the sexes – and be filled with awestruck wonder at his masterpiece!
