The increase in blood concentration of estrogen with rising of the ovarian follicle causes the hypophysis to secrete LH. In this stage LH acts jointly with FSH promoting the maturation of follicle that at the 14th day ruptures releasing the female gamete (ovulation). After releasing of ovum, LH acts stimulating the formation of corpus luteum, a structure which is made from the remaining follicular mass. The LH concentration is at its peak on the14th day of the cycle.
