Pregnant proglottid with taenia eggs is released together with the human feces. When ingested by intermediate hosts, bovine or swine, the egg break inside their intestines and the larva trespass mucosa and gains the circulation to settle on the muscles, heart, brain and additional organs of these animals and then distinguish in cystic larvae called cysticerci. Humans become infected when eating raw or badly cooked bovine or swine meat contaminated by the cysticerci. In the human intestines cysticerci develop in adult worms and cycle goes on.
