Double closed circulation or closed circulation, is that in which the blood circulates via two related and parallel vascular systems: one which carries blood to and takes blood from peripheral tissues (that is, the systemic circulation) and the other which carries blood to and takes blood from the tissues which perform gas exchange with the atmosphere, example: the lungs (that is, pulmonary circulation). Double circulation takes place in amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Simple closed circulation or simple circulation, is the one in which the tissues which perform gas exchange are related in series with the systemic circulation, as in fishes.
