The antibodies of humoral immune system perform against extracellular agents, such as toxins or bacteria, however they are not active in intracellular space and they can’t fight virus proficiently. In case of viral infection (and as well of cancerous or precancerous cells) the immune attack is made up by the cellular immune system, mediated by T and NK (or natural killers) lymphocytes which destroy specific virus and cells.
