Hormones of Ovaries: As we know the hypothalamus and pituitary gland control the discharge of female hormones starting in puberty with the dischage of ESTROGEN. The GnRH (gonadotropin liberating hormone) activates the pituitary that discharge FSH (that is, follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (that is, luteinizing hormone). Throughout the follicular phase of menstruation the blood carries FSH secretions to ovary which in returnsecrete ESTROGEN that initiates development of endometrium. A negative feed-back loop is initiated whenever the estrogen levels rise and the FSH secretion is stopped – this points out that the follicular phase is complete. At this time the LH is discharged ovulation takes place and the luteal phase starts. The cells of the corpus luteum secrete both estrogen and PROGESTERONE that further raises the development of the endometrium. Whenever the levels of estrogen and progesterone are high adequate a second negative feedback loop is started and LH is turned off. Now the corpus luteum is not receiving any hormones and the message it now has is to shed and start the menstrual cycle.
With the diagram above you can see how the endometrium, the ovary, the GnRH hormones, estrogen and progesterone all work together at different phases during the 28 day cycle – it is quite complex and only God knows how it all manages to work for hisglory.
