Within the flower ovary there exist the megasporangia enclosed by the tegument having the small opening, the micropyle. Inside the megasporangium there exists the megasporocyte, or megaspore mother cell, which goes through the meiosis forming the four megaspores of which three restore and only one becomes functional. The functional megaspore go through the (three) mitosis producing eight cells which as a whole form the embryonic sac.
