Formation of egg cells starts with the germ cell known as oogonium (2n) which go through the mitosis and provide birth to oocyte I (2n). The oocyte I go through the meiosis I which though is interrupted at the prophase. After puberty, during each menstrual cycle an oocyte I end the meiosis I and produce one oocyte II (n) and first polar body (n). With fecundation oocyte II, then go through the meiosis II and generates the mature egg cell (n) and the second polar body (n).
