The system which allows movement and fixation to substrates in the echinoderms is termed as ambulacral system. In such animals water enters via a structure termed as madreporite, passes via channels and reaches the ambulacral feet in the undersurface of the body. In an ambulacral area in contact with the substrate, there are tube feet emptied and filled by water therefore acting as suckers.
