Web service can be defined as the self-sustained and independent unit of the software application which is hosted on a Web and execute specific functionalities to perform the business logic. Web service provides much functionality, like computing tax, generating pay slips for employees, broadcasting weather report, and providing updated news. Web service permits application to distribute information or exchange data with another application across various operating systems and hardware.
Web services transfer data in XML format and utilize Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) to communicate. This is the XML based protocol. Web services use Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) and Web Services Description Language (WSDL) to describe itself.
