Amebiasis is caused by protozoan Entamoeba histolytica, or simply amoeba.

The transmission of disease is oral-fecal, through the contaminated water and food or by insects such as cockroaches and flies. The amoeba parasites intestine of humans generally in an asymptomatic way, but it can sometimes cause enteritis with diarrhea and stern dysentery, abdominal pain, anemia and weight loss. In rare cases extra-intestinal invasion might take place affecting the liver, genital organs, skin and other organs.
