Define Work in Progress or WIP

Work in Progress (WIP): It also termed as work in process, is inventory which has begun the manufacturing process and is no longer contained in raw materials inventory, but it is not even a completed product. On a balance sheet, it is seem to be an asset since money has been spent towards a completed product. Since the product has not been completed, though, WIP is valued lower.
