The lymphatic system is a network of specialized valve vessels which drain interstitial fluid (or lymph). The lymphatic system is as well responsible for the transport of chylomicrons (that is, vesicles which contain lipids) made up after the absorption of fats by intestinal epithelium.
In the manner of lymphatic vessels there are ganglial-like structures termed as lymph nodes which contain numerous cells of the immune system. Such cells filter impurities and demolish microorganisms and cellular wastes. Lymphatic vessels drain to two main lymphatic vessels, the thoracic duct and the right lymphatic duct, which in their turns drain to tributary veins of the superior vena cava.
