Circulatory system in arthropods
Name the type of circulatory system existed in arthropods? Do such animals have heart and respiratory pigments?
Expert
In arthropods the respiratory system is open (or lacunar). Blood, as well termed as hemolymph, is pumped by a heart and falls into the cavities (or lacunas) irrigating and draining the tissues. All arthropods contain a heart. Arachnids and crustaceans contain respiratory pigments. Insects do not contain respiratory pigments as their blood does not carry gases (in them gases reach tissues and cells via tracheal structures).
