The plant cell when placed under the hypertonic medium loses a high volume of water and its cell membrane detaches from cell wall. In that condition the cell is named as plasmolysed cell. When the plasmolysed cell is placed in the hypertonic medium it soaks up water and becomes the turgid cell. This phenomenon is named as deplasmolysis.
