The chief components of CPU includes:-
a) Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU):- The function of ALU is to carry out the arithmetic operations like subtraction and addition; logical operations like AND, OR and EX-OR.
b) Timing and control unit: - It produces timing signals for execution of the instruction and control of the peripheral devices.
c) Accumulator and General purpose registers: - The accumulator is defined as a register that consists of one of the operands and stores the results of most of the arithmetic and logical operations.
