In the brain, conscious sensory information is obtained by the neurons located in a special area termed as postcentral gyrus (or sensory gyrus). Gyri are the convolutions of cerebrum. Each of the two postcentral gyri is situated in one of the parietal lobes of cerebrum.
The voluntary motor activity (or voluntary muscle movement) is commanded by neurons located in the precentral gyrus (motor gyrus). Each of the two precentral gyri is situated in one of the frontal lobes of cerebrum. The names post and pre-central refer to the fact that the motor and sensory gyri are spaced separately in each cerebral hemisphere by the sulcus centralis, a fissure which separates the parietal and frontal lobes.
