Advantages of I-TCP are as follows:

a) I-TCP does not need any changes within TCP protocol as used by hosts within the fixed network or another hosts in the wireless network which do not use this optimization.

b) Without partitioning, the retransmission of lost packets might take place between the mobile host and the correspondent host across the whole network.

c) Optimization of the new techniques is pretty simple to be done in the I-TCP since they cover the single hop.

d) Short delay between the mobile host and the foreign agent can be measured and is independent of the other traffic streams. Thus, an optimized TCP may utilize precise time-outs to guarantee the retransmission as fast as possible.

e) Partitioning into two connections also enables the utilization of the several transport layer protocol between foreign agent and mobile host or the use of compressed headers etc. The foreign agent may act as the gateway to translate between the several protocols.
