It refers to an electronic down bridge that is used in order to improve the security of the network. It prevent s the unauthorised users to access the private networks connected to the internet or either the intranet, all the message which are entering the network or leaving the network pass through the firewall which does not allow if the user is not meeting the security criteria.
Its configuration consists of two components:
