In haplontic haplobiontic life cycle the single and lasting form is known as the haploid. In diplontic haplobiontic life cycle it is known as the diploid. In the diplobiontic life cycle, the lasting individual which alternates along with the intermediate form may be haploid gametophyte (just as in the bryophytes) or the diploid sporophyte (just as in the pteridophytes).
