Your boss instructs you to tell whomever may call you about

Question: Surveys indicate that significant differences exist between the values, attitudes, and beliefs that supervisors personally hold and those they encounter in the workplace. These differences are not simply a U.S. phenomenon. Around the world supervisors face the same predicament, should they follow orders that go against their own values and beliefs? Read the following two general scenarios. What would you recommend be done in each instance. Answer each question completely, supporting your recommendation(s).

1. Your boss asks you to donate $100 to a political candidate who happens to be her relative. This candidate is not someone you support politically or philosophically. Your boss wants 100% participation in her department. Do you make the contribution? Why or why not?

2. Your boss instructs you to tell whomever may call you about her whereabouts that you were working with your boss last evening and didn't leave the office until well after 8 pm. You have no idea why this request is being made, and do not know what your boss was doing last evening. Would you support your boss's request when the call came in?
