( I already choose) Choose 3 works of art that you find interesting, for whatever reason, and identify the Title, Artist, Media/Materials, and Date for each work.
Describe one of the artworks write about its visual elements of art and principles of design used in the work of art. Analyze the levels of content and/or art history the work refers to. Interpret the meaning and iconography (symbols and images) of the work, based on visual and/or historical/cultural information available. Judge how successful the artist was in expressing his or her vision. Use visual elements, design principles, and analysis of iconography, or other evidence, to make your case.
Compare and contrast the two other artworks by describing the similarities and differences in their use of elements and principles of design, and the content, iconography (symbols/images), and/or meaning of the two artworks.
Choose one of these 3 artworks and generally describe how you might use it (or some related work or style) in an art lesson or curriculum with your students. Specify what grade level and kind of students would benefit or be inspired most from this work of art. You do NOT have to write an art lesson plan in detail. Just explain the general concept or idea. (1 or 2 paragraphs)
The Art Museum/Gallery Visit report (double-spaced, 10 - 12 pt., at least 5 pages or more) is due on the last regularly scheduled class. It will be graded for Content and Form. Content means following the directions of the assignment, the quality of description, interpretation, and judgment of the artwork; and, the curriculum implications. Form refers to spelling, grammar, logical structure and coherence of the writing.
Note: Do not copy descriptions or content directly from a museum or art gallery website or other published (online and offline) materials, without citing the source. Direct copying without citation will be considered plagiarism and will lead to an automatic F for the paper and possible failing grade for the course. Other departmental and University actions might also be considered.
