1. Why do these different perspectives matter? Why is it important to understand emic and etic when conducting research?
2. Grounded theory approach is often used in the social sciences to inductively generate or discover a theory out of the data. Phenomenology and ethnography are more commonly used qualitative approaches in health care. The use of qualitative research in health care enables researchers to answer questions that may not be easily answered by quantitative methods. Qualitative research is thought to be a newer method of research in health care since for decades research was based on quantitative methods. What are the theoretical basis, methodology, and evaluation techniques used for qualitative research?
