Assignment - Effect Size and Power

We have been learning about the power of studies and how this relates to planning appropriate sample sizes. We have also been talking about effect size and the importance of determining not only statistical significance, but practical significance as well.

1. For the study you are proposing for your final research proposal indicate what sample size you will need in order to have enough power to reject your null hypothesis. This relates to the planning part of your study. You will need to predict an effect size based on the literature or justify based on experience.

2. What measure of effect size will you calculate for your study? What are the implications of finding a small, medium, or large effect size for your research?

3. Review one of the articles you have used for previous posts. Was there a discussion of effect size? If so, what did the researchers find? If not, what would be the implications of various effect sizes? Include a discussion of the study and power - for example what does the sample size suggest about the power of the study.
