What kind of inhibitor is erythromycin

Problem:

The common antibiotic, erythromycin, binds reversibly to the large subunit of the bacterial ribosome. However, the antibiotic does NOT bind to the active site.

Answer each of the following questions:

Question 1: What kind of inhibitor is erythromycin?

Question 2:, Will erythromycin affect the Km or VMax of the ribosome? In which direction (ie: higher or lower)?

Could someone explain this to me?
