Examples of topics:

Internet usage: how much time do respondents spend on a site, and what do they actually do with it?

Internet shopping: What products? How much time is spent? What can be done to improve the experience? What are the advantages and disadvantages over other forms of shopping?

Use of social media and preferences.

Diets: Did your respondents adopt a diet recently? Have they been on the diet in the last 6 months? (If not, have they considered it?) What kind of diet? Why? What expectations and thoughts do they have about diets?

Drink preferences: types of drinks, or brand preferences. Do consumers like to stay with the same brand or do they prefer variety?

Local food scene: where do Baruch students eat their meals? Good and bad aspects of top 8 choices.

The gym at Baruch College: do students use it? When, how? Which aspects could be improved? Which aspects are really good?

Politics and advertising: what do people think of it? Do they feel that it is persuasive for others? Is it persuasive for them? Main issues that respondents associate with it.

Legal services and advertising: persuasiveness and perceptions.

Fashion: how do respondents (pick a homogeneous group) get their fashion sense and knowledge. Sources of information and references for taste (friends, magazines) and why they are important.

Thinking about a career: what are the most important aspects? What are the acceptable tradeoffs? (For example, income, free time, etc.)

Coupons: who uses coupons and who does not? Find explanations and patterns of usage.

Guidelines:

Note that any idea is acceptable, and you are not restricted to the topics suggested above. You can also take one of these topics and modify it.

The most important things to remember are:

1) Your project should provide the description and explanation of some preference or opinion of a group of respondents.

2) The project is about respondents, i.e. people. You should keep to a minimum any discussion of companies, company history, management, or strategies.

3) Any method of primary data collection is acceptable: focus groups, depth interviews, pilot surveys, expert surveys, etc.

4) In all cases, your project is an exploratory project. Your sample is going to be limited (for example, 50 or so for a pilot survey, or 2 groups of 6-8 for focus groups, or 5-6 individual depth interviews), and non-probabilistic.

5) The goal is to produce a good blueprint for a hypothetical larger project, and to provide some interesting, possibly new, insights about the topic that was investigated.

6) The written report should be divided into sections, such as Introduction, etc. Please see your syllabus for a list of sections. You can also look at the last chapter of your book, and adopt a greatly simplified version of their approach to the Research Report.

My topic is

The usage of Apps: Do customers think that using the Apps are very helpful to save their time when they order something via Apps? Especially, when do customers use them usually? Why? Are they satisfied with using?

I will search the result of the profit's difference when using the Apps or not, for instance, Starbucks App. And then, I will add the information of the customers satisfied and the time of the using.
