What does it mean to suggest that yokai are uncanny? Explore Freud's concept of the uncanny and write about its value (or lack thereof?) for the study of Japanese yokai. Freud's essay can be found here.
Rules:
Your essay should be about 2000 words long (double spaced, in a normal font, with 1" margins). It is due by Tuesday, Oct. 16. 12:00pm noon
For readings on the syllabus, brief, in-text citations are sufficient-e.g., (Bito, Ako Incident, 52). For readings that aren't on the syllabus, I'd like a full citation; in that case, a footnote or endnote might me more convenient.
