Theme: Analyzing the Importance of the Image of Kings
Review the concept of Iconography from the introductory chapter and glossary. Then discuss Royal iconography in Near Eastern and Egyptian culture by carefully analyzing THREE specific images of kings. Please address the following:
1. What are the visual qualities (material, scale, composition etc...) that make images of kings stand out in comparison to other people? When appropriate use the formal analytical terms from the introduction.
2. How do the image of kings relate to each culture's concepts of political power?
3. What were the qualities people expected in a king and how were these represented visually?
