Using the Grand Strategy Selection Matrix, or GSSM, it appears General Mills fits best within quadrant 4, which includes a combination of strong competitive position and slow market growth (Mbalectures, 2010).

After completing research on General Mills regarding their corporate strategies, combined with my personal knowledge of their products and competitors, it appears quadrant 4 was the most applicable.

The cereal or grain industry is pretty well established and there is not much growth or change besides the latest trend towards more nutritional options. This would imply General Mills falls under the slow market growth category.

General Mills also is one of the leading organizations within its industry, which would qualify it for their strong competitive position.

The combination of these two main characteristics of General Mills led me to my opinion of the company being most closely related to quadrant 4 of the GSSM.
